Connect your domain
- Use the nameservers or DNS targets provided for the service.
- Allow for DNS caching and propagation.
- Verify both the root domain and www hostname when your site uses both.
Deploy the site
- Add the domain in the hosting control panel if required.
- Upload or migrate the website files.
- Create databases and database users only as needed.
- Update the application configuration for the new database and hostname.
Enable HTTPS
- Issue or enable the available TLS certificate for the domain.
- Test the HTTPS version directly.
- Redirect HTTP to HTTPS only after HTTPS works correctly.
- Check that application-generated links and assets also use HTTPS.
Email and DNS
If the hosting plan includes mail features, use the DNS records and mailbox settings shown by the hosting platform. Mail delivery also depends on correct DNS and sender authentication; do not assume that creating a mailbox alone establishes reputation.
Backups and updates
- Keep the website application, plugins and themes current.
- Maintain a recoverable copy appropriate to the site.
- Do not assume provider backups are included unless the purchased plan explicitly states that they are.
When to choose a VPS instead
Choose VPS or VDS hosting when you need operating-system control, custom system packages or an environment outside the capabilities of the shared-hosting platform.
