How to Enable Free SSL on Shared Hosting

Who this is for:
Customers who want HTTPS on their website.

Overview:
SSL secures the connection between your website and your visitors. Most modern websites should always use HTTPS.

What you need before starting:

  • active hosting account

  • domain pointed correctly to SVR4U

  • cPanel access

Steps:

  1. Log in to cPanel.

  2. Open SSL/TLS Status or your SSL management tool.

  3. Check whether a free SSL certificate has already been issued automatically.

  4. If not, select the domain and run the automatic SSL function if available.

  5. Once SSL is active, update WordPress or your site settings to use https://.

Why SSL may not issue immediately:
SSL validation usually requires the domain to point to the correct hosting server first.

How to verify it worked:
Visit your site with https:// and confirm the padlock icon appears in the browser.

Common mistakes:

  • domain still points elsewhere

  • mixed content warnings from old HTTP links

  • forgetting to force HTTPS in WordPress or site settings

When to contact support:
Contact support if SSL does not issue after DNS has fully propagated.
