Article 4: Setting Up Reverse DNS (PTR Records)

What is Reverse DNS (rDNS)?

Standard DNS (A Records) points a name (https://www.google.com/search?q=google.com) to an IP. Reverse DNS points an IP back to a name. This is critical for Email Delivery. If you send an email and your rDNS does not match your domain, your email will likely be marked as Spam.

How to Request rDNS at SVR4U

To maintain security, we require a "Forward Match" before setting a PTR record:

  1. Create an A Record: Go to your domain provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, etc.) and point your domain (e.g., mail.yourdomain.com) to your SVR4U Public IP.

  2. Verify: Wait for the DNS to propagate.

  3. Open a Ticket: Contact our support team with the subject "rDNS Request". Provide your IP and the desired hostname.

  4. Verification: Our team will verify that the A Record points to our network and will update the PTR record within 24 hours.
