Securing Your Linux VPS

Once you log in for the first time, your server is your responsibility. To prevent unauthorized access and protect our network reputation, we recommend the following:

1. Configure the Uncomplicated Firewall (UFW) By default, all ports are open. You should close everything except what you need:

Bash

ufw allow 22/tcp # SSH
ufw allow 80/tcp # HTTP
ufw allow 443/tcp # HTTPS
ufw enable

2. Install Fail2Ban Fail2Ban monitors your logs for "Brute Force" attempts and automatically bans the attacker's IP.

Bash

apt install fail2ban -y

IP Reputation & Blacklists

At SVR4U, we provide "Clean" IPv4 addresses. To keep them clean:

  • No Bulk Mail: Do not use our servers for unsolicited marketing emails.

  • Monitor for Compromise: If your server is hacked, it may be used to launch DDoS attacks. Regularly check your running processes with top or htop.

  • Blacklist Fee: Please note that according to our AUP, a RM 50.00 fee is applied to any account that causes an IP to be blacklisted by major providers (Gmail, Microsoft, Spamhaus).
